ABOUT THE DOCUMENTARY

Whilst the conversation surrounding mental health has opened up in the past few years with awareness on the rise, the subject remains more taboo in the sporting world of professional tennis. Despite the gruelling, lonely nature of the sport - being alone on the court as a singles player or doubles team and getting little or no help from your support camp, travelling the world for 10-11 months of the year, only one player walking away as a winner every week and the rest having to cope with losing - few players have opened up about the mental struggles they have faced as a result of life on the pro tour.

Game, Set, Mental Health aims to continue a conversation that has only just begun in the tennis world, and contribute to breaking the stigmas surrounding mental illness within the sport. Through investigating what is in place on the men’s and women’s pro tours (the ATP and WTA) respectively, and speaking to players who have been willing to open up and make a difference, the goal is to normalise this topic within tennis and find ways to improve the ways the sport’s governing bodies support their players’ mental well-being.
